The history behind 420
Ahhh 420. You always hear it from your stoner buddies! “420 blaze it!” But how many of you really know where 420 came from? Loving your medicine is cool, we all love and enjoy the cannabis we consume however knowing the history behind your medicine and the details of its growth and development over its time since inception are what show real love of medicine. Well today is 420 so enjoy some 420 history brought to you by the GROW team!
Did you know that 420 has a 50+ year old history behind it! thats right! 420 originated in California, by a group of teenagers who attended San Rafael school. These boys had no idea that what they were doing would make history forever. You see these boys came onto the knowledge of an abandoned cannabis crop. Not only that but somehow a map had come into their possession that could lead them to the location of this abandoned crop! So these boys would meet up after school during the week to smoke cannabis together and then go exploring the areas shown on the map in an attempt to locate the abandoned cannabis. The meeting time was selected to be 4:20. How the term was created is one story, but how the term became an internationally known icon across the globe is slightly more interesting.
The boys never came across the mysterious “abandoned crop” however they created something magnificent in the process. The coining of the phrase 420 is a global moniker for weed smokers everywhere. But how did 420 go from a phrase used by high school boys in California to an international beacon of weed? Well you see a few of the boys family members had some close connections with the grateful dead, you know the band. The boys had done quite a bit of back stage work for the band at a place known as “Winterland” and the grateful dead band members, staff and groupies all picked up on “420” and started using it regularly.
So next time you are planning on getting ripped with your friends and you take a look over to the clock and its just a few minutes until 4:20, point it out and have them wait a minute or two so that you may blaze up at 4:20 like all the other stoners around the world, past present and future. Like I said before, 420 BLAZE IT!
